Printing an AI logo in 2027: files and proofing

A logo that looks good on screen may still fail in print. Choose the right master, follow the printer's template and approve a production proof before ordering.

Keep a clean vector master

Retain an editable SVG or equivalent vector file, plus a flat version without fragile effects. Many suppliers ask for a production PDF, but accepted formats vary by product.

High-resolution PNG files may work for certain uses, yet they are limited by pixel resolution. Vector paths provide more flexibility when scaling artwork.

RGB and CMYK are not interchangeable

Screens generally use RGB colors; many printing workflows use CMYK or spot colors. A conversion can shift appearance, so do not promise a perfect screen-to-print match.

Ask which color profile the supplier wants. Do not convert everything to CMYK automatically: some workflows explicitly request RGB and handle conversion downstream.

Bleed and safe margins depend on the product

Bleed belongs to the printed layout, not to an isolated logo. A business card, sticker and folded flyer can have different technical templates.

Test readability at final size; thin lines and tiny type can disappear. Prepare a high-contrast monochrome option for simpler processes.

  • Use the supplier's exact document dimensions
  • Follow its safe-area and bleed specification
  • Check fonts, paths and transparencies
  • Review contrast and line thickness
  • Keep a mono version

Approve a production proof

A proof or pre-production approval checks placement, wording, dimensions and the final file. A screen mockup is helpful but is not proof of print compliance.

For significant runs, request the available technical check or physical proof and save the approved version.

Using files from BrandMotion Lab

Deliverables depend on the offer purchased. A vector logo is a starting point rather than a guarantee that a document matches the specifications of every printer.

For vendors such as Print.com, use the template and file requirements of the specific item ordered. Do not assume an order has been accepted merely because the logo export succeeded.

Methods and file formats are explained here; always check current vendor offers and technical requirements.
