Practical logo guides by trade
Construction company logo: vans, sites, workwear, quotes
A construction company logo is rarely seen up close. It drives past on a van door, hangs on a banner on scaffolding, is embroidered on a work jacket and printed at the top of quotes. This guide helps you choose a logo sturdy enough for those conditions, and reminds you what it does not replace: the notices and statements required by regulation.

A site logo is read from a distance first
On a moving vehicle or a banner seen from the street, you get a few seconds and several meters of distance. Three qualities matter more than anything else:
- A legible name: a straightforward typeface, no fancy script, and a name short enough to remember.
- Simple shapes: a symbol understood at a glance, with no small elements that blur at a distance.
- Strong contrast: between the logo and the background of the vehicle, banner or garment.
| Where | What matters | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Van, trailer | Read in motion and from afar | Horizontal version, vector file for vinyl cutting |
| Banner, company sign | Legible from the public road | Large name, contact details kept separate from the logo |
| Jacket, polo shirt, cap | Embroidery or transfer, small size | Simplified version, one or two colors |
| Hard hat, tools | Sticker a few centimeters wide | Symbol or initial only |
| Quotes, invoices, website | Read up close, office printing | PNG for your quoting software, black version |
Demo: two versions of the same logo
The two concepts below were produced by BrandMotion Labâs engine for âBĂątisseurs & Coâ, a fictional company from our demo gallery. It is not a customer. Comparing them shows clearly what works on a building site and what struggles there.

Fit the logo to your trade and your plans
The house with a roof, the trowel, the wrench and the hard hat are the most used symbols in the sector. They say what you do, but make you look like many companies in your area. A few more distinctive directions:
- Work on the companyâs initial with a shape from the trade: a roof angle, a brick, a wire, a drop, a spirit level.
- Suggest the material rather than the tool: stone, wood, metal, concrete, through shape or color.
- Rely on the name alone, well drawn, if your family name is already known locally.
Think ahead
An electrician who will add EV chargers, or a mason who will take on full renovations, may feel boxed in by a logo tied to a single task. If you plan to broaden your services or your area, prefer a more general symbol and a name without an overly local reference.
Colors: contrast, restraint and a black version
- Choose one dominant color and one accent color at most. Navy, forest green, charcoal, orange or brick red are common; what matters is the contrast with your vehicles and workwear.
- Check legibility on a white background (most vans) and on a dark background (jackets, polo shirts).
- Prepare an all-black version for quotes printed in the office, stamps and photocopied documents.
- Avoid gradients: they complicate vinyl cutting, embroidery and low-cost printing.
What a logo does not replace
A logo showcases your company, but it does not exempt you from any notice or statement required by law. In France, for example, two confusions are common; wherever you work, check the equivalent local rules.
The planning permission notice is not your advertising board
In France, the board that displays a building permit or a prior declaration concerns the holder of the authorization, usually the client. According to Service-Public.gouv.fr, it is rectangular, at least 80 centimeters, must be readable from the public road and carries specific details (holder, authorization number and date, nature of the project, town hall where the file can be consulted, right of appealâŠ). The board or banner presenting your company is a separate commercial medium: do not confuse it with this regulatory notice.
Insurance statements on quotes and invoices
In France, businesses registered for a craft activity must state on every quote and invoice the professional insurance required for their trade, the insurerâs or guarantorâs contact details and the geographical coverage of the policy (article L132-1 of the French Crafts Code). Plan a header where the logo leaves room for this information, rather than an oversized logo that pushes it into small print. The texts are listed at the bottom of the page; check the version in force.
The files your suppliers will need
- For vehicle lettering: a vector file (SVG or PDF). Adhesive lettering is cut along the outlines of the design; a PNG does not allow that.
- For workwear: the same vector file, which the embroiderer digitizes or the print shop prepares. Our guide how to prepare a logo for embroidery covers this step.
- For banners, signs and cards: a vector PDF for the printer, who handles color conversion and sends you a proof. The guide AI logo for print: files and proofs explains how to prepare.
- For your quoting software and website: a transparent PNG and a black version.
BrandMotion Labâs Logo Pack delivers these basics for the chosen logo: an SVG built from real vector paths, a vector PDF, transparent and white-background PNGs, dark and light monochrome versions and a one-page brand guide. It includes neither an embroidery file nor a vehicle mockup: your suppliers make those adaptations from the vector file. The guide PNG, SVG, EPS, PDF: which format helps you pick the right file for each use.
Common mistakes
- An overly detailed logo: crane, house, tools and slogan together. It turns into a smudge on a van door.
- Putting the phone number inside the logo: numbers change, and they must stay readable on their own. Place contact details next to the logo, never in it.
- Only a full-color version, useless for black-and-white quotes and embroidery.
- Ordering lettering for a whole fleet before approving a scale mockup on one vehicle.
- Handing the installer or printer a low-resolution image taken from a website or social profile.
Creating your logo with BrandMotion Lab
- Write down the exact name, your main trade, your area and what you might do tomorrow.
- Run a trial without an account with the construction sector preselected: two watermarked previews to test a direction, with no files delivered.
- With an account, the Logo Pack lets you compare six free concepts before paying anything.
- Test the chosen concept at a distance: show it large on a screen and look at it from four or five meters, then print it at the width your embroiderer plans for a chest mark.
- After the one-time payment, send the SVG or PDF to your lettering installer, embroiderer and printer, and ask each of them for a mockup or a proof.
Not sure whether to choose the Logo Pack or a subscription? The Pricing page compares both paths.
Frequently asked questions
- Does a construction logo need a house or a roof?
- No. These symbols are easy to understand but very common. A well-worked initial, a shape linked to your material or a well-drawn name often set you apart more, especially if your business evolves.
- How large should the logo be on a van?
- There is no single size: it depends on the vehicle, the reading distance and what else you display. Ask your installer for a scale mockup before application, and check that the name is legible from several meters.
- Can I put my logo on the building permit board?
- In France, that board concerns the holder of the authorization and must first carry the regulatory details, readable from the public road. Your company can promote itself on its own board or banner, separate from this mandatory notice.
- Can the Logo Pack SVG be used for vinyl cutting?
- The SVG is built from vector paths, which is what installers need for cutting. Your supplier then adapts it to their machine and the lettering size.
